Golden Coral, Amethyst Deceiver, Ruby Bolete........
Dozens of different fungi have been recorded in Piles Coppice, including 1 extremely rare one and others unknown in Warwickshire.
If you are interested, now is the time to go and look, they are appearing everywhere. Their abundance is a sign of a healthy woodland and, according to an interesting session with fungi expert Merlin Sheldrake recently, they indicate the important underground mycelial network showing the trees communicating and protecting each other. Fascinating and so very important.
Another reason why felling machinery should never be taken into this precious woodland.
(The photo is Chicken of the Woods and there is Beefsteak fungus there as well!)
