Been a bit under the weather, but managed to punt out a scene from my reboot idea.
Riley has a few words to say to Chief Gluteus. And he’s not too happy being told off by a child, even if she’s correct.
Authority is a hard thing to stand up to. Especially when the figure who’s supposed to BE the authority, to bring bravery to inspire others and to deliver justice into the world when it’s needed. That’s what an officer HAS to be.
Instead, the chief has let Spryman call the shots and make foolish decisions at the cost of Hector’s safety and life. He’s ignored the obvious and overlooked things so he keeps his mustache clean and stays on the mayor’s good side. AND he’s wrongfully persecuted the likes of Ozzy and Drix, who only want to do what’s right for Hector and Hector alone. They’d been punished for such idealistic views, and they’d never gotten a thank you from him and that spoiled brat who she’s so DEEPLY disgusted by for it.
So she finally takes a stand, calling both Spryman AND Gluteus out for their incompetence and ignorance. The mayor is stunned by her firm resolve. But the chief tries to reassure her with a patronizing chuckle, that she shouldn’t worry her ‘pretty little head’ about what’s going on, as they have everything under control. Offended by the sexist/ableist comment, she raises her voice and continues, refusing to let the detective and the pill be punished for thinking about what the Hector was going on in this body. (Sound familiar?)
Finally losing his cool, the badged blowhard finally retorts that she has no respect for authority, just like her father.
You can see on her face that the wall she tried desperately to keep from crumbling was finally doing just that. CRUMBLING.
She knew it was a lie, but Gluteus had definitely struck a nerve in her. She feels the emotion and hurt coming fast, and she runs out of the mayor’s office to hide it, ashamed.
Ozzy watches the scene unfold in shock. That sweet, witty, yet reserved kid broken to pieces.
He shoots Gluteus, who looked regretful himself, a dirty look before going after her.
Sorry I didn’t color this. Life’s been smacking this ol’ girl around a bit.
But things with scars and bruises can be healed. With time. And the right people.
I love you all. And thanks you Brie for enjoying my characters and stories.
I really wish they were more than that.
