The Petition to Prevent Another Major Fire in Waltham has reached almost 300 signatures and continues to receive approval and support. This effort remains a tremendous success since its inception last Wednesday. The people of Waltham are hungry for means to express their concerns about this issue and this process has been enthusiastically embraced. This was evident from the numerous and positive remarks. Your continued support and mounting frustrations are a driving force in the ongoing effort to see this special permit revoked, property repurposed to prevent overdevelopment along with the elimination of unacceptable City Council procedure.
Our plans to take the petition to the City Council on the 23rd have changed. Recently the Council President Diane LeBlanc made the suggestion to deliver the petition to the City Clerk’s Office. Although we are disappointed that we will not be bringing the petition to the attention of the City Council as quickly as we had anticipated, we will respectfully abide by this recommendation. We will deliver the petition to the City Clerk’s Office early this week and also request to be put on the docket for the next city council meeting.
We will continue this effort and are grateful for you joining us in working towards a more transparent, collaborative, and citizen focused city government. The petition at Change.org has been closed out. However, we will endeavor to stay in touch as the next steps evolve and to form a regular ongoing group to discuss these issues. We need for you to contact us through progressforward9@gmail.com
Sincerely,
Don and Lidia Desrochers
