We call up on the decision makers at Walmart to reject The Hutton Company's (aka Polestar) proposal to them that will destroy this important part of Knoxville's history and future when other development sites are available that do not destroy historic buildings.

This historic Knoxville home, constructed circa 1910, and located on U.S. Hwy. 441 (2921 Broadway) close to downtown is currently in an estate which requires the residence be sold. The home is a North Knoxville icon and is one of the finest examples of Craftsman style architecture still standing in Knox County. It has a rich history and has received Knox Heritage awards on two occasions for the quality maintenance and care by its previous owners Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Howard.

The property includes 2.4 acres with gardens, a gazebo, and lit tennis courts. The home was designed by University of Tennessee graduate Charles Hayes for his brother, building contractor Lynn Hayes, and built around 1910. It is in pristine condition and eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

This stretch of Broadway in Historic North Knoxville is already cluttered with development that detracts from the historic neighborhoods in the area and the loss of this beloved historic property will be detrimental to efforts to improve the area. In addition, there are other sites in the area that are more appropriate for this type of development and do not contain historic buildings.
