The Issue

In Winchester, our community is grappling with the relentless violence and hate propagated by ICE. This issue is deeply personal to me, as I've witnessed firsthand the divide it has sown among us and the fear it has instilled in countless families. At John Handley High School, where I study, several of my peers have fallen victim to ICE's unjust tactics, leaving them without a voice and seeking a platform to be heard.

It's high time we stood up collectively to say no to this ongoing injustice. I am proposing a peaceful walkout at our high school to send a strong, unified message that we will not tolerate the damage ICE's presence has caused. This symbolic act will not only bind us as a community but also highlight the personal impact of ICE brutality on our lives.

Many credible reports and stories across the community, and indeed the nation, reveal the unnecessary harshness and aggressive measures employed by ICE. Families have been ripped apart, young children left traumatised, and hardworking individuals living in constant dread of being abruptly uprooted from their lives. The statistics are staggering, with thousands of peaceful community members being treated unjustly, fostering an environment of distrust and fear.

A peaceful walkout can provide a visual testament to our unity and determination to protect the rights and dignity of every student and family affected by these actions. We need to engage school officials, community leaders, and local advocacy groups to ensure our voices are heard and that change is instigated. It is essential for our beloved school and beyond to support this walkout not just as an act of defiance, but as a step towards constructive dialogue and healing.

This walkout is more than an act of protest; it’s a call to all students, teachers, and parents to join hands in forging a future free from intimidation and unfair practices. Let this be a turning point where we choose love, empathy, and justice over fear and divisiveness.

Please sign this petition to show your support for a peaceful stand against ICE's aggressive acts and to reinforce our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community at John Handley High School. Together, we can make a difference.
