Walgreens, Hear Our Plea: One Person Can’t Do the Work of Three!

Walgreens, Hear Our Plea: One Person Can’t Do the Work of Three!
The Issue
I’ve been having panic attacks for the first time in my life.
Working under these horrendous conditions is causing me to have nightmares, panic attacks, insomnia, and migraines. These are the symptoms I endure even on my days off, wrecking my mental health. I know I’m not the only one suffering.
For the past two years at this company, I’ve let countless issues slide and get buried. I’ve been fed the same empty promises by the higher-ups, like “This change won’t affect your store hours” or “We don’t expect you to get this done every day.” All of it turned out to be blatant lies.
Two things need to change for Walgreens technicians, and they need to change now. First, we demand a significant pay raise for experienced, full-time techs. Second, we need a drastic reduction in the unrealistic expectations from corporate. Living paycheck to paycheck, like 78% of this country, we should not be suffering while working for a company raking in tens of billions a year. None of us should.
Walgreens has turned this job into a nightmare sweatshop. We are completely burnt out 24/7 and have zero energy to do anything we love. Meanwhile anyone above retail level can afford vacations and detox while we’re setting up payment plans just to buy groceries for our families. We refuse to live like this anymore. We are not superhuman.
From now on, we will go to work and do only the job we were hired to do. We are done striving to exceed expectations for a company that treats us like a number. We run around for 8-10 hours a day trying to do the work of 2-3 people, often alone due to hours being cut. We don’t need to spell out the specifics because if you’re reading this, you already know.
Walgreens is spiraling towards its own downfall. It won’t be because stores spent too much on ordering products to ensure customer service. It won’t be because the Patient Care Portal wasn’t completed daily due to short staffing. And it certainly won’t be because technicians refused to get certified for an extra dollar an hour. It will be because of the insatiable greed of corporate and their delusional standards.
Change is not just needed—it’s mandatory. I will no longer live like this. I am no longer more than one person.
