Waive Ukraine’s right to host Eurovision-2023 in favor of Poland

The Issue

Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra has won Eurovision 2022, thanks to a great song and massive televoting support from the people of Europe. We in Ukraine appreciate the support and we are very much thankful to every  single participant, contestant and voter!

As the winner, Ukraine would be happy to host Eurovision next year - in Kyiv, Mariupol or Yalta. However, it's not quite safe here. russian armed forces are bombing Ukraine's cities, raping women and killing children. While the victory is inevitable, realistically it may take longer than we expect.

According to eurovisionworld.com, there have been 6 exceptions when the winning country has not hosted the competition the next year:

1956: Switzerland won – 1957 was held in Frankfurt, Germany

1959: Netherlands won – 1960 was held in London, UK

1962: France won – 1963 was held in London, UK

1971: Monaco won – 1972 was held in Edinburgh, UK

1973: Luxembourg won – 1974 was held in Brighton, UK

1979: Israel won – 1980 was held in The Hague, Netherlands

With this petition, we are asking:

The Ukrainian Government, National Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (NPTU), Organizing Committee of the National Selection for Eurovision:

to propose Poland to host the Eurovision-2023 contest, and

if the proposal is accepted, to apply to the European Broadcasting Union for the exception to the Eurovision rules.

The European Broadcasting Union:

to allow Ukraine to transfer its right to host the Eurovision-2023 contest to Poland, as an exception.

Eurovision-2023 participating countries:

to support the exception to the Eurovision rules and to support Poland as the host.

Poland has been fighting side by side with Ukraine as its major partner on the humanitarian front. Out of more than 6 million refugees fleeing the war, Poland has provided shelter to 3.7 million, which is equivalent to hosting an entire small country.

It would be our honor to let Poland host the Eurovision-2023 too!
