The Legislative Council has selected a Committee on Animal Cruelty Laws in New South Wales.This committee was established on 8 August 2019 to inquire and report on the effectiveness of arrangements for the administration and enforcement of the laws of New South Wales for the protection of animals from cruelty. The Chair is Mark Pearson (AJP, LC Member).

As part of this inquiry, the committee is seeking the views of interested stakeholders via an online questionnaire (you can also make a more detailed submission if you wish). Responses are due by Friday 29 November 2019.

We really encourage everyone to complete the questionnaire or make a submission.

We do not consider it appropriate that charities are responsible for enforcing the laws regarding animal cruelty.

We would like to see pound-specific legislation, updated animal welfare legislation and an independent adequately-funded government body that monitors council pounds, etc and enforces legislation. We have made a submission regarding Wagga Pound.
