VSS is in ICD-11, but where is the Cure? Funding and Research for Visual Snow Syndrome!

The Issue

We are calling on the WHO, the European Commission, the NIH, and the Global Pharmaceutical Industry to prioritize the transition from diagnosing Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) to actively treating it.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized VSS in the ICD-11, but for the hundreds of thousands of us suffering, this is just a label on a closed door. Recognition without a research roadmap and without clinical trials is a sentence to a lifetime of sensory hell.

We are calling on the WHO, the European Commission, the NIH, and the Global Pharmaceutical Industry to expand scientific research and commit all necessary resources to finding effective treatments and a definitive cure for Visual Snow Syndrome.

Our reality is a constant, exhausting neurological overload:

• Blinded by the Day: We are functionally blinded by the sky and bright surfaces due to thousands of shooting white sparks (BFEP) and dense, chaotic Floaters.

• Blinded by the Night: Driving is a life-threatening hazard as every light source explodes into massive Starbursts and Halos, erasing our surroundings.

• The Glitch in Vision: Our brains fail to "refresh." Every movement leaves ghostly Trails and persistent Positive After-images that overlap reality until everything is a smear.

• A World of Static: A 24/7 storm of flickering noise, accompanied by piercing Tinnitus, Hyperacusis, and the soul-crushing weight of Depersonalization/Derealization.

THIS IS UNBEARABLE.

To the Scientific Community and Big Pharma:

Science has begun to identify the source: a complex global dysfunction of the brain's visual and sensory processing networks, involving cortical hyperexcitability and impaired thalamocortical dysrhythmia. While we have clues about brain hyperexcitability, we still lack a complete, definitive map of this disorder. We urgently need more in-depth research to pinpoint exactly what is happening in our brains. But research is only the first step—we demand action that leads to advanced pharmacological treatments, targeted neuromodulation (like rTMS), and neuro-technology specifically designed to silence the static.

We need:

1. Massive Research Grants: We call on the European Commission and NIH to create dedicated funding streams specifically for VSS neuro-imaging and pharmacological research.

2. Pharma Partnerships: We urge pharmaceutical giants to partner with neuroscientists to fast-track clinical trials for neuro-stabilizing drugs and non-invasive brain stimulation (rTMS).

3. A Global Task Force: We demand that the WHO coordinates an international body of scientists to move VSS from "rare anomaly" to a "research priority."

We are tired of being told to "learn to live with it." We want the brightest minds in science to fix our broken vision.

I am just a 24-year-old girl. I should be at the peak of my life, enjoying every moment, building my future, and looking at the world with hope. Instead, this disease has stolen everything from me. My youth is being spent in a terrifying, distorted reality that I cannot escape. I am tired of fighting for a life that was supposed to be mine. I am one of hundreds of thousands who are screaming for help while the world watches in silence.

The static is deafening. Science must speak louder. Fund the cure!
