Vote of No Confidence - Cllr Millie Earl, Leader BCP Council

Vote of No Confidence - Cllr Millie Earl, Leader BCP Council
The Issue
Residents across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are calling for a formal Vote of No Confidence in the current Leader of BCP Council, Councillor Millie Earl.
Despite strong public opposition, and repeated warnings about breaching the Gunning Principles of fair consultation the Leader pushed through the Town Councils proposals, adding unnecessary costs during a cost-of-living crisis. Ongoing concerns about transparency, accountability, and financial prudence have seriously undermined confidence in the Council’s leadership.
This petition gives residents and councillors the opportunity to restore accountability and ensure the Council is led by someone who commands the confidence of both the public and the elected Council.
The Town Councils proposal was opposed by around 75% of respondents, yet the Leader rejected calls to delay implementation until after the 2027 elections. As a result, the Council went ahead, incurring over £1 million in additional costs at a time when residents are facing a cost-of-living crisis. This added another unnecessary layer of bureaucracy onto residents.
Despite strong public opposition, the proposal was pursued without genuine consultation or clear justification, demonstrating a disregard for public opinion and poor financial judgement.
During the Full Council debate, many residents and councillors expressed concern about how public participation was handled. The tone and approach were viewed as falling short of the Nolan Principles of Public Life (particularly respect, accountability, and leadership) further undermining public trust.
There is documented evidence of public complaints alleging that ongoing statements made by the Council’s leadership were misleading or inaccurate, raising serious concerns about transparency and honesty in public communication.
Collectively, these actions have caused frustration and distrust among residents. Our community deserves a Council that listens, engages openly, and leads with integrity.
We call on BCP Council to hold a formal Vote of No Confidence in the Leader, in accordance with the Council’s Constitution and the Local Government Act 2000.
