VOTE NO to Concordia parish schools consolidation.

The Issue

This petition has been formed to implore the Concordia Parish School Board to vote “NO” on the
Proposed Consent Order in regard to Civil Action No. 65-CV-11577.
This proposed consent order calls for the redistricting of school attendance zones in Concordia Parish and the merging of Vidalia and Ferriday schools beginning with the 2025-2026 school year as follows:
1.)  Vidalia and Ferriday School Zones, Grades Kindergarten to 8:
a. Students enrolled in Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 shall attend Vidalia Upper
Elementary.
b. Students enrolled in grades 3, 4, and 5 shall attend Ferriday Upper Elementary.
c. Students enrolled in grades 6, 7, and 8 shall attend Ferriday Junior High.
2.) Vidalia and Ferriday School Zones, Grades 9-12 shall attend the High School within their newly redistricted school zones.
It is the goal of this petition on to outline the proposed changes and to send a clear message to the Concordia Parish School Board to vote “NO” on this proposal. Students currently go to schools that are located within the town/community they reside or the immediate surrounding areas. It is not the wish
of the residents of Concordia Parish to travel across the Parish into another town/community or have our children bussed to these new school locations. Children should continue to attend schools in the towns and communities they reside. This unnecessary logistical burden will not only affect the children and parents for the academic school day but will also create logistical challenges in regards to extra-curricular activities. Additionally, and for the same reasons outlined above, it is unnecessary to redistrict school zones unilaterally and force students that live in the surrounding area of Vidalia and traditionally zoned for Vidalia Schools to now travel to attend Ferriday High School.
By signing this petition I agree that the Concordia Parish School Board should vote “NO” on this proposal and seek any and all alternatives.
