We, the residents of Vacaville, demand that the City Council vote NO on finalizing the purchase agreement of 7050 Leisure Town Rd, Vacaville, CA for the purpose of a 32 acre commercial lithium ion battery storage facility.

Lithium ion battery storage comes with risks, including: fires, explosions and toxic smoke that would evacuate residents from their homes. The smoke emitted from these fires can be toxic and can severely irritate the eyes and lungs of people breathing it. Since 2018, there have been 40 large lithium ion battery fires documented. These are very difficult to extinguish and sometimes burn for weeks.  They require excessive amounts of water and dry chemicals that can pollute the groundwater and soil for many years.

Menard Energy LLC is promising a community park with eight tennis courts and a pool as an incentive to accept their project. While this may seem beneficial to the City, this project doesn’t belong near homes. The residents in the area and anyone using the sports complex would inherit the risks. This project is 1050 ft away from houses in North Village and 480 ft away from houses on Mills Lane.  It is also within a mile of a major hospital, college and local businesses. This project may also lower property values of nearby residents with the hazard risk.

Lastly we are not looking for any donations just want to spread awareness and hopefully get some participation.
