Volkswagen: Fair Software Update Rollout for VW ID​.​7, ID​.​3, ID​.​4, ID​.​5, and ID Buzz Owners

The Issue

As owners of various Volkswagen ID. models — including the ID.7, ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.Buzz — we are increasingly concerned and frustrated by the disparity in software versions and functionality between recently produced vehicles and those purchased earlier, despite identical model years.

🚗 The Problem:
Many of us currently own vehicles equipped with software version 4.0.
Newer vehicles of the same model year are now shipping with software version 5.0, which includes new features and improvements unavailable to existing owners.
Despite having compatible hardware, our vehicles remain locked out of these updates, with no official word from VW on availability or support timelines.
❗ Our Concerns:
There has been no clear communication from Volkswagen regarding when — or if — version 5.0 will be rolled out to existing ID. customers.
The lack of a unified software update path creates a fragmented ownership experience and undermines confidence in VW’s long-term support for its electric vehicle lineup.
As loyal VW customers and early adopters of the ID. series, we feel sidelined by this lack of transparency.
📣 We Urge Volkswagen to:
Release an official roadmap for the rollout of software version 5.0 and beyond to all eligible ID. models, including the ID.7, ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.Buzz.
Ensure fair and timely updates for all customers where hardware compatibility allows.
Improve communication with existing owners, including honest updates on software rollout challenges or limitations.
We believe all ID. model owners deserve equal access to the best and latest version of the software that powers their vehicles. The current approach risks alienating loyal customers and diminishing the reputation of Volkswagen's electric vehicle commitment.
