Voiceless Victims: Say No to Animal Testing

Voiceless Victims: Say No to Animal Testing
The Issue
Animal testing is an issue that causes serious harm to innocent animals who cannot defend themselves. An example of this is Envigo, a privately held company in the U.S., is responsible for the suffering of more than 5,000 dogs crammed into tiny, barren cages filled with feces and mold. Among them was a heart-wrenching sight: a three-week-old puppy trapped in a waste pan beneath his cage, his fur matted with dried feces. This inhumane treatment demands our urgent attention and action. Many animals are forced to suffer pain, stress, and death just to test products such as cosmetics and household items. This cruelty is unnecessary, especially when safer and more humane alternatives already exist. Animals deserve to be treated with care and respect, not used as tools for experimentation.
In our country, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) strongly opposes the use of animals in experimentation and the use of products and establishments that rely on animal testing. PAWS supports the protection of animals through laws such as Republic Act 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. In line with this law, PAWS pushed for the creation of Administrative Order No. 40, which sets rules and regulations for scientific procedures using animals. This shows that even our laws recognize the importance of limiting and regulating animal experimentation to prevent abuse.
We call on companies, lawmakers, and consumers to listen to PAWS and take a firm stand against animal testing. By supporting cruelty-free products and strengthening animal welfare laws, we can help reduce animal suffering and promote ethical practices. Choosing kindness over cruelty reflects our values as a society. Animals feel pain and fear just like humans do, and it is our responsibility to protect them.
