We are voicing our disappointment in the overturning of Governor Scott's veto on bill H.887 by Representatives. This bill does not serve the interest of middle-income, elderly, or a majority of Vermont property owners. Instead, it poses an undue financial burden that many of us can't afford, considering that current property tax rates push financial survival to its limits. According to data from the US Census Bureau, the median property tax in Vermont is among the ten highest in the US, with an average of $3,795 per year. This burden is an added weight on the shoulders of single property owners like me and frontier-residing elderly who live on limited incomes.
