VIT Hostel Fees Are Getting Ridiculous

Hostel fees at VIT Vellore and VIT Chennai have become unreasonably high. Even the most basic shared rooms now cost around ₹1.2 lakh per year, while AC rooms and other options easily go close to ₹2 lakh or more with mess.

For many students and families, this is simply not affordable. The fees keep increasing almost every year, yet students don’t see any major improvements in hostel facilities or services that justify these hikes.

What makes it worse is that the cost of living outside campus in Vellore or Chennai is often much lower, which raises serious questions about why hostel charges are so high.

Students deserve transparency about how these fees are calculated and why they keep increasing. Universities should prioritize students and accessibility, not treat accommodation as a profit source.

It’s time for the administration to listen to student concerns and reconsider the hostel fee structure.
