Help, Contribute Sulakshmi Devi feed her 450 strays

The Issue

Fifteen years ago Sulakshmi Das Gupta and her husband Pinaki Dasgupta had 3 dogs as their pets in their house in C.R.Park, New Delhi. Unlike others who only feed their own dogs, and care for them, she started to feel compassionate towards the stray dogs around and began to feed them as well. While their home slowly filled up from 3 to 4 to 5 to 6 dogs (2 from the streets), she made a special effort to go out and feed more of them. Today, she feeds about 500 dogs in major localities such as C.R. Park, Kalkaji, Kailash Colony, Greater Kailash-Part-I, Greater Kailash-Part-II, and Okhla Phase 1 & 3.

Today, covering roughly 30 square Km, she also provides medical attention and care to the same 500 dogs monthly along with weekly vaccinations as well as new homes for the newborn. The effort is paramount to 18 hours of daily labor, involving 300 kg of freshly cooked rice every day. Other activities include Medical Aid, Neuteration, X-Rays, Operation, Post-Operative Care, Homes for Accident Victims, and Anti-Rabies and Anti-Distemper Vaccination.

Feeding strays are often taken in wrong sense by many residents due to reported incidents of dog attacks and uncontrollable births. Sulakshmi has envisioned the goal to vaccinate and provide anti rabies injections to all the stray so these organisations have no reasons curb to mass killings of dogs. Sulakshmi wants to create a sustainable model where these dogs can be taken care of and she can provide medical attention to strays.

She has started The FeedStrays Program, and she needs funds and more support to continue working for their welfare. Even after looking for support from the government bodies, no conculsion was drawn on how to progress with the work and make it an everlasting resolution. She recently approached a crowdfunding platform desiredwings.com to share her cause with people so that they can come ahead and understand the living of strays and help them.

Her schedule:

7:00am – 10 am: Constant work in the Kitchen for the Food

6:30am - 9:30 am: Serving Food to the Strays around our locality [Batch 1]

11:00am – 6:00 pm: Serving Food to the Strays around South Delhi [Batch 2]

8:00pm – 3:00 am: Constant work in the Kitchen for the Food

As and when medical attention is required she try to have it delivered immediately. It is not just about feeding the stray dogs, with the effort she wants people to understand that feeding dogs is not bad or create problem. On needs to experience the life and care required by these mute beings who have no one to take care of them. It’s hard to summarise the overwhelming feeling when I came to know that with growing age and depleting wealth she is selling all her ancestral jewellery and property she has now reached down to a point where she needs help to sustain her vision.

Recently, one of our known met her and saw fear on her face on how will she be able to complete what she started and for me and for many animal lovers, it's disheartening to see such attachment with such constructive thought. Please help her. She really needs it.

Please.
