Delay or Suspend Repayment of Sales and Meals Taxes

The Issue

The COVID 19 virus has created life altering ramifications for everyone.  Its devastating health-related consequences are being felt in every corner of the world and no one can accurately predict when it might subside.

The economic impact on small businesses and restaurants will be equally as devastating.  As local, state and federal mandates for social distancing continue to be enforced, more and more of our hometown stores and eateries will undoubtedly suffer.

While limiting exposure and "flattening the curve" are a necessary requirement in order to slow the spread of COVID 19, countless business owners are left to figure out how to keep the lights on.  Cashflow limitations will be a very serious problem for every business dependent on in-person commerce.

A simple way to temporarily ease some of cashflow issues for our local businesses is to delay or suspend their requirements to pay Sales and Meals Taxes (or any other business-related taxes.)  By temporarily retaining this percentage of their bottomline, businesses will have a greater opportunity to support staff members, continue to subsidize health insurance and pay other monthly bills.

Let's give small business owners a fighting chance to endure through these difficult and unprecedented times!
