Much has been going on and I can only share a bit of it with you. First, there is opposition in the house to SB890. Both Delegate Bell and Gilbert are not friendly to it. While the bill has a good deal more support than it has had in the past, it is still far from being certain to reach the floor of the House. Our next step is to involve the Governor. Governor Northam has hammered out a deal with Delegate Cox, the Speaker of the House, to raise the grand larceny limit in Virginia. During the last legislative session, that was bitterly opposed. So I thought that if we could recruit him to speak for the bipartisan SB890, he could accomplish the same thing. Ask him to support SB890 and Senators Marsden and Wagner's effort to allow juvenile offenders to apply for parole after serving 25 years in prison. Their bill is not a "25 and done" bill.
