Hello Everyone! With Thanksgiving, the weekend, and Black Friday in the tank we can now focus on getting back to our legislative agenda. January is fast approaching and time is rapidly running down to the start of the new legislative session. The next legislator that we need to bring onboard is Delegate Tim Hugo. Delegate Hugo is a member of the Republican leadership in the House and he is friendly to juvenile justice reform. What we need from him is to champion Senator Marsden's legislation in the House. Ask him to speak to Delegate Kirk Cox and Delegate Rob Bell about Senator Marsden's bill to abolish juvenile life without parole in Virginia. Time and again this bill has been presented and time and again it has died in Rob Bell's committee. It has been supported by Virginia's Commonwealth's Attorneys, the Attorney General, and by the Senate. It is high time that it be allowed to come to the floor of the House for a vote. By not allowing a vote on this bill, the victims of crime are not being served. One by one they will be subpoenaed back into court to relive the most horrific moments of their lives just as was done in the Majeed case in Norfolk where the prosecutor went into graphic detail again and again and again. I can think of nothing more cruel to do to those people than that. Ask Delegate Hugo not to allow that to happen again. Let the victims and their families have peace.
