Hello, Everyone! I have a favor to ask of you. I want to make Kelly's release a political issue. I was at the re-sentencing hearing of Azeem Majeed last week and the court's decision, in that case, is a direct result of the House of Delegate's failure to act on SB1152. Traditionally, the House Republicans have blocked the bill that would have prevented the pain, fear, and anguish of the families from being resurrected in the courtroom in Miller cases. I wrote my thoughts regarding that position here: https://goo.gl/Oh9OEk Senator Marsden's bill has bipartisan appeal. For Republicans it is cost effective, it mandates a cost for wrongs done, and it allows release for changed hearts in accordance with Christian principles of forgiveness. But most importantly, it spares the victims and their families from having to relive the most horrific moments of their lives and re-experiencing that pain. We have written Delegate Rob Bell, we have written the Governor of Virginia, and now we are going to write the Virginia Republican Chairman. The address is: Chairman John C. Grace Street Richmond, Virginia 23219 I am asking for hardcopy letters on this one because that will mean much more than an email. Tell Chairman Whitbeck why this issue needs to be addressed. Explain to him that the victims and their families have suffered enough and don't deserve to be forced to relive the worst moments of their lives. Nobody with a heart wants that. The precedent has already been set by the Norfolk Circuit Court because Virginia failed to act when Chairman Bell had the opportunity to do so. The Commonwealth's Attorneys wanted SB1152 because they could see what was coming. Senator Marsden will re-introduce this bill again and I want you to ask him for Republican support so that we can protect the citizens of Virginia. Please be polite when you write him. We cannot get this legislation passed if we don't have Republican support.
