On October 6, the Trustees of Central United Methodist Church filed a lawsuit in Arlington Circuit Court. The lawsuit is a proceeding under Virginia Code section 57-28.1, which permits a landowner to petition the court for permission to remove remains from an "abandoned family graveyard.” The statute requires the plaintiff to make certain efforts to identify interested persons, and name them as defendants.
