GSA at Wylie High School for 2019-2020 school year

GSA at Wylie High School for 2019-2020 school year
The Issue
Currently at Wylie High School of Wylie Texas, there is a large number of LGBT+ students. Copious amounts of these students have attempted to petition for a Gay Straight Alliance Club (or a GSA Club) in the past only to be declined by the principal, Mr. Virdie Montgomery. The students have a right to host a club of their choosing according to the 1st amendment. This club would be a place for those who might not feel welcomed in a typical school group. About 52% of Generation Z identify as some sort of LGBTQ+, and more then half of LGBTQ+ students have been bullied for what they identify as-including myself. Almost 30% of these students have tried to commit suicide. This is a huge issue, but hopefully something as small as a GSA would make the difference of a lifetime. This club aims to give these students a place to not be afraid. Those who feel like misfits or who are alienated would be welcome into the club with open arms. It would make the school a better place to be, and more LGBTQ students would be free to express themselves openly.
