Update re Petition for the lifts at Broadstairs and Ramsgate

I attended the TDC council meeting last night and stated that I will continue this petition until The lifts remain open permanently not just for the summer season. At present Viking Bay lift will open on 21st June a very important date for everybody in relation to Covid restrictions.

TDC are very positive in their approach to this as they want them open as well and are looking into the issue of cost. However the lift at Ramsgate has more serious problems that they are awaiting reports on re structure etc.

But at the end of the day the whole situation comes down to one word MONEY ! which they do not have to fund the lifts and are trying to source. I got the impression this will be difficult. But overall a positive reaction to the petition and the fact they have been looking to a solution prior to it being passed to them.

I do feel that your response by signing and showing public opinion has been a positive way of showing we care.

There were suggestions that local business’s, a local lottery or a crowd funding page could be the answer. I personally disagree and feel that TDC should fund the lifts not the public etc this is not a long term solution. TDC should maybe look towards National lottery funding. But these are early days

I would like TDC to give us the public a full and comprehensive breakdown of the costs involved so we the community can fully understand what the financial situation really is.

I will be contacting the new Conservative head of TDC who was elected last night to provide this information.

Finally I hope you would like to ensure the lifts are open 365 days and maybe a way of having them designated as disabled so they can be used by all but with the basis of them being a disabled point of access.
