To every parent, coach, and supporter of youth sports,
We’re now well into the season, and while the sound of the bat cracking and cheers from the stands fill the air, there’s a silent and dangerous truth sitting behind it all: Little League is still banning thumb protectors—one of the simplest, most effective tools to prevent thumb injuries in youth baseball and softball.
This isn’t about professional athletes. This is about your kids and their safety at the plate!
Let’s be clear:
The thumb is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body at the plate.
Youth players are still developing—a jammed hand, bruised thumb, or fractured bone can lead to lasting damage. These injuries are very preventable with the use of a thumb guard.
So, why (really, why) is Little League refusing to even acknowledge the rising concerns from parents, coaches, and medical professionals?
If this was a knee guard or a batting helmet, would they ignore it? Of course not. But because it’s something they don’t seem to fully understand—they’re choosing to ignore the growing evidence and the increasing number of injuries. They aren’t protecting the integrity of the game. They’re putting kids in harm’s way.
It’s time to call them out. Loudly. Don’t stay silent—your story matters.
Share your youth athlete’s experience with bat sting, hand injuries, or how Little League’s ban on thumb protectors has impacted their confidence and safety. Post it here and on your socials—tag Little League and ask why they’re ignoring this issue.
We hear it all the time from parents: When kids no longer fear bat sting, they step up to the plate with confidence—they swing freely, stay in the game, and love it more.
So why is Little League taking that away?
Let’s see how Little League responds—if they respond. So far, they’ve stayed silent. When (or if) they do, let’s hold their answers up against the truth about thumb protectors. Parents know the difference. Coaches know the impact. And the players? They feel it every time they step into the box.
Let’s keep the pressure on and demand better—for every Little League youth player. Every player deserves the right to protect themselves against injury. They deserve a choice for what works best for them at bat.
We need you—every parent, coach, and advocate—to take action:

No athlete should be limited by unfounded rules that ban protection. If you’ve ever watched a kid experience bat sting or be impacted by a hand injury, you know why this matters. Let’s make sure the gear that protects every youth Little League athlete stays in the game.
