Just seven months after Spelthorne Borough Council's Licensing Sub-Committee refused Golden Slots' application for a 24-hour Adult Gaming Centre at 39 Church Road, the same operator has submitted a brand new application for the same premises.
They did not appeal the October 2025 refusal. That decision stands permanently on record. But under the Gambling Act 2005 they are entitled to reapply, and they have.
Again, they are applying for 24-hour operation, seven days a week, despite the Planning Inspectorate's restriction of 09:00 to 23:00 still being in force.
They have hired a specialist gambling law firm. They have produced a significantly more detailed application. They are better prepared than last time.
So are we!
⚖️ What has changed
Nothing that matters. The same schools are still there. The same care homes. The same library. The same bus stops. The same vulnerable residents. The same community that said no last time is still here.
The Sub-Committee found in October 2025 that no conditions could sufficiently protect children and vulnerable people from the harms this AGC would bring into the wider community.
That finding is on record. The applicant must now demonstrate what has materially changed. We do not believe they can.
✊ What we need from you
The Ashford Residents Association is already working hard on a formal representation and will shortly be providing guidance and template letters to help you submit your own personal objection to Spelthorne Borough Council.
In the meantime please share this petition widely. Every signature remains a powerful demonstration that this community has not changed its mind.
Let's show them that Ashford does not forget and does not give up.
With thanks,
Nik Urquhart
