Endometriosis is NOT Elective Surgery.

The issue

Over the last two years we've been in and out of lockdown. Elective procedures have been postponed or cancelled. This has had huge impact on the health of women and menstruators who suffer from Endometriosis. Endometriosis Surgery is considered elective. However, like myself and many others we do not consider Endometriosis surgery as 'optional'.

Currently, not one single person in the Victorian Endo Community can have surgery right now.

The average age for an Endo diagnosis is 28 years old. On average it takes 7 years to be diagnosed. Women and menstruators suffer on a daily and monthly basis. Living with Endometriosis impacts a person in many ways from living with chronic pain, heavy periods, painful periods, exhaustion, bowel issues, infertility, pain during sex, not to mention the stress, mental health and financial burden. Given, most women/menstruators will need more than one laparoscopic surgery.

Surgery needs to be considered a high priority due to the major impact it has on the quality of life, health and anatomy of the reproductive organs. Endometriosis doesn't stop growing whilst surgery is cancelled, it continues to grow leading to further damage of reproductive organs.

On the 6/1/22 it was again announced that all elective surgery would be cancelled.

I am an Endo Warrior and Endo Champion for Endometriosis Australia. Every day in clinic I see women and menstruators suffering. All too often, my clients Endometriosis is mis-diagnosed or under diagnosed, delaying the correct diagnosis and management of this condition. This only adds to their anxiety and stress knowing that something is not right in their body.

Endometriosis is NOT a choice. Politicians should NOT be allowed to decide that Endometriosis Surgery is elective. It's time for Change! It's time to change Endometriosis to NON-ELECTIVE and make it ESSENTIAL. For our health is essential. Endometriosis deserves more attention considering there are 176 million individuals worldwide with Endo. Yes I am 1 in 9.

By signing this petition and sharing your story, you're helping to remind the Authorities that we ENDO warriors are many. Let's make our WOMBS and VOICES be heard. Enough is Enough. Closing down Elective surgery is not the solution. We will not sit quietly and allow them to put a Pause on our condition that we did not electively choose.

It's time Endometriosis surgery is classified as non-elective. It's time the government listen to our wombs and voices!  Please help us reach 10,000 signatures. Share your Endo + Support story with us.
