It's a Melbourne icon.  It's an Australian icon.  And now it could be gone.  There is still time to #SaveTheStar.  We need someone to take over the business.  We need local councils and the government to prevent high-rise buildings from interrupting the view.

If this petition is successful it will hopefully allow talks between the current operators, possible new operators, Visit Victoria and the government to develop a plan to keep the Melbourne Star in operation.  With possibly a development plan put in place to move the wheel to a better location (Birrarung Marr would be the ideal location).  

The Melbourne Star, if operational, will be a valuable asset to the Melbourne tourism market and the Melbourne economy once borders open back up in a post-COVID world.  With vaccinations skyrocketing in Australia, it's only a matter of weeks or months once restrictions ease and the Star can once again be operational.

It needs to be kept flying to ensure that Melbourne gets a good handful of tourists and that businesses that have chosen to open in The District Docklands due to the Melbourne Star attracting tourists, continue to be able to operate in the prime tourist area.  If the Star closes, many of those businesses will be forced to move away from Docklands.
