We as a group have successfully campaigned the West Australian government and they have opened Australias 1st Cyberknife facility at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. We feel Victoria should also get this revolutionary, state of the art treatment. In fact we persuaded the Bracks / Brumby Govt to research and commit to funding the Cyberknife at VCCC. Upon losing the subsequent election the incoming Govt did not proceed. The robotic Cyberknife only takes 1 day, requires no drugs or surgery, can treat inoperable cancers and has no side effects. I feel this is the future of cancer care for Australia. It can treat kids as well so many families will be spared the pain of losing a child with this. Cyberknife has been available in hospitals world wide for over 15 yrs yet Australia still has just the 1. Victoria can become a cancer care leader in the region. The newest version of Cyberknife is far more advanced and is used for breast cancer patients as well. Its accuracy means that cancer previously untreatable in Australia is now treatable. Please help increase the options for cancer patients in Australia and consider bringing Cyberknife to Victoria.
