Victorian State Government Building Authority needs to be a more effective body.
Victorian State Government Building Authority needs to be a more effective body.
The issue
YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THE PROCESS, UNTIL YOU HAVE ISSUES. PLEASE SUPPORT THIS PETITION AND HELP MAKE THE BUILDING INDUSTRY MORE ACCOUNTABLE.
The Building Industry in Victoria seems to be rife with corruption and sub-standard work. Building practitioners seem to get away with serious issues such as non-adherence to Building Standards, issuing false certifications, incorrect building permits, occupancy certificates etc.
According to many, the perception is that the Victorian Building Authority is skewed towards building practitioners and there is no end to end resolution of issues. Often the buck is passed between the VBA and Consumer Affairs Victoria / VCAT. The VBA should be responsible for assuring complete resolution of issues.
The aim of this petition are to reset perceptions of this body as a balanced fair minded organisation, by using some of the tactics and strategies below:
1) Have a group of concerned home owners meet with the VBA CEO.
2) Meet with the Building Minister if required.
3) To have the VBA publish statistics of completed resolutions.
4) To establish a separate body to review unsatisfied resolutions - these should include home owner advocates.
5) Involve independent home owner advocates (volunteers) to attend DBDRV mediation sessions.
6) Advocate for a published demerit point system for building practitioners by name and organisation (so that less phoenixing) is possible.
7) When a complaint is made, all documents relating to the job (not just complaint) from building practitioners must be submitted and held with the VBA/council..
