Susan Kim was elected in the October 2022 election and is currently the neighbourhood liaison for Hillside-Quadra. She is also serving on the City of Victoria Youth Council, the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority Board, the Greater Victoria Public Library Board, the Regional Water Supply Commission and the Victoria Citizen’s Assembly Council Committee.

Susan Kim has signed a letter penned by censured MP Sarah Jama that calls the rapes Israeli women experienced at the hands of Hamas on October 7, 2023 “unverified accusations” and has been wearing a Keffiyeh to Victoria City Council meetings.

Imagine being a Jewish member of our community and having to rely on Ms. Kim as an elected representative. Would you feel you could bring your concerns forward to Ms. Kim and be free from prejudice? Would you feel as though she’d represent your interest, equally to the interests of others in our community? Would you be able to trust Ms. Kim?

In being an elected member of Victoria City Council, Ms. Kim has a responsibility to serve all members of her community to the best of her ability, including Jewish members. In behaving the way she has she has brought our community into disrepute and has lost the trust and respect of many citizens in the City of Victoria.

Victoria City Council needs to censure Susan Kim and should move to remove her from her board positions. Further, Victoria City Council should forbid Ms. Kim from wearing a Keffiyeh in chambers, just as they would forbid any other member from engaging in a “display of hate” during council business.

Further, we request that Ms. Kim apologize to our community and resign from her position at Victoria City Council for her egregious behaviour.
