Thanks to all those who have signed and shared the petition, we are starting to get some real traction.
Just to clarify the purpose of the petition is actually to reduce the speed limit on the whole stretch, and include a school zone at Balcombe Grammar. This would be a short term (1-4 years) until they can sort out how they will fix the problem at the 2 major intersections and the whole road, given that the federal government have already coughed up $10.0 Million.
We have got the Peninsula Leader on board, and they are busily penning a story. We have also been updated by Cr Antonella Celi - Seawinds Ward Peter with the response she has received in relation to the school crossing zone from VicRoads ”that they are aware of community concerns and is in the process of investigating the intersection to determining if it qualifies for a remote school speed zone. To complete this investigation a count of students crossing the road is required and is expected to be completed early Term 1” - so from this, we gather they will be looking into it. Hopefully with positive results.
Cr Celi also advised that Mornington Peninsula Shire has been lobbying Vic Rads and Department of Transport and that plans are underway to get roundabout road treatments at Forest Drive and Uralla Rd. Asa reference we were provided with a copy of the Shire Community Report October to December 2019. 11th February 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting.
So good news however we would still like to get some timelines so that we can see what can be done in the meantime.
Also late update from Local MP - David Morris - Thank you for your message regarding the Forest Drive and Nepean Highway intersection, Mount Martha. As part of the 2019/20 Federal Budget, $5 million was secured to upgrade and improve the safety at this intersection. The works must be undertaken by the Victorian State Government. I have been pushing the Victorian Government to fix this intersection for many years. First they refused to fund improvements themselves, and now, despite the Federal Government putting up the money they still won’t get on with the job. Current indications are the work won’t be done until 2022! It is incredibly frustrating but I will keep pushing to get this dangerous intersection fixed once and for all. I trust information has been useful and should you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office. David Morris MP
We just need to calrify this from David as the federal government committed $10 million in 2016 according to Greg Hunts, Federal member office
Stay tuned and spread the word!
