Full Reimbursement for Contact Hours Lost for the Upcoming Industrial Action
Over the past academic year, University of York students have been significantly affected by the strikes that have occurred during the end of November, and will again be commencing 20th February until Friday 13th March 2020. The cause is important and I want to make it clear that I understand and support the reasoning for the Industrial Action, however the implications on myself and thousands of others from the timing of the strikes and inability to gain support from a university we pay thousands for is unacceptable.
If we are not getting the classes and support we are paying for, then this amount should be rightly reimbursed to us, in whatever form the university see as most appropriate. Why should we have to pay for an education that we are not receiving?
Despite the warning and communication from the university to try and minimise the implications, this does not change the ultimate reality that our education will be detrimentally affected.
EVERY student, no matter what year, will suffer the consequences of the Industrial Action and if the strike will not be cancelled then we do not see how it is justified to withhold our money when it will not be spent on our education. The staff are calling to improve services for them, whilst it is us students that will endure the heavy repercussions.
