Keep Evelyn Lozada on Basketball Wives

Keep Evelyn Lozada on Basketball Wives

The Issue

A petition was started over a year ago to remove Evelyn Lozada from the VH1 reality series Basketball Wives. The petition was made after Evelyn Lozada made a comment to her cast mate "Cece," after being called "Evil-Lyn." The comment was viewed as a "racial jab." Although it is clear that Lozada's intentions behind a comment said during a heated moment was not to put down another woman of color, she apologized to her cast mate privately prior the scene being aired, and publicly after.

Lozada went on Instagram and Twitter to issue an apology about her remarks. She shared an image of a paragraph which outlined how the remark came about, empathy, and noting that she apologized to Gutierrez. “In the heat of a verbal battle things are sometimes said that are hurtful, untrue and totally out of character. It’s not cool – but regrettably it happens. I understand why many are upset by my derogatory, stereotypical reference of another woman of color – and for that I’m so sorry. I extended a heartfelt apology to my cast mate CeCe Gutierrez a few weeks back in which she graciously accepted. Moving forward….I have to do better.

Lozada also made a video to add to her sincere apology, which can be seen here.

She was forgiven by her cast mate and continued on the reality series with a better understanding of how strong words can be.

It is important to realize that what is shown of these woman on television for the public's entertainment does not truly reflect their characters. Lozada is more than just a reality television personality, she is an Afro-Latina, Bronx native, domestic abuse survivor, entrepreneur, author, philanthropist and above all, a mother. Lozada is a mother of mixed children, and focused on raising her son to become a powerful, respectful and respectable black man.

Lozada has used her platform to give back to those in need with her foundation, the Evelyn Lozada Foundation. Recently, Lozada has shared images of an event put together dedicated to single moms and their children. On the post, she states "As a single parent—I know how the hustle and bustle of everyday life with children can be taxing although you wouldn’t trade it in for anything in the world! I wanted to do something fun that involved single moms & their kids-so we had a baseball game. I also wanted to treat moms to a fabulous swag bag of items that helped them to look and feel their best with products developed by fellow Mompreneurs." Lozada has also recently helped people pay for medical bills, funeral arrangements, classroom necessities and more, according to her twitter account.

Unfortunately, the petition from a year ago, which was made prior to the apology, has made a comeback in attempt to ruin tarnish Lozada's character and position on the show. Due to a cast mate, "OG" being upset about her direction on the show, she has created false claims against Lozada with the motive of destroying Lozada's image to better her own. "OG" hopes to change her direction and stay on a show she tried for years to become apart of. "OG" has decided to base her false claims around the previous situation described above, attempting to create untrue stories to have people believe Lozada is a racist, although it is clear she is not.

Please sign this petition to show that Lozada deserves to remain on Basketball Wives, as she is not what she has been painted out to be. After signing this petition, please head over to the other,  scroll down, hit "Report a policy violation" and report as "Abusive or hateful."
