This is no ordinary local bill. It grants unsupervised authority of eminent domain and annexation to the municipality to employees of a Canadian developer! This is a story of injustice and muted voices in the West Villages Improvement District (the District) in Florida. The Master Developer continues to reign with unchecked power, blatantly ignoring legislative requirements to transition landowner Supervisor seats to those elected by the residents. The unfortunate narrative here is about the devious manipulations of the Master Developer in maintaining majority control over the Board of Supervisors, disregarding statutory requirements in the calculation of the District's urbanized area. This cold calculation has cost the residents of the District two sorely needed additional seats on the Board of Supervisors. 

Passage of the proposed bill in the Florida legislature will seal this status quo, further empowering the Master Developer, and deepening the erosion of democratic values in our District. This is why I call on you, fellow residents, Florida citizens and lawmakers alike, to take a stand against the adoption of this precedence-setting bill.
