The Issue

Three lives were tragically lost in a catastrophic accident caused by an illegal immigrant who, shockingly, was granted a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) illegally by the state of California. This devastating incident highlights a serious flaw in our system – a loophole that endangers our roads and hampers national safety. The issuance of CDL licenses without thorough verification procedures jeopardizes not only the lives of American citizens but also the integrity of our legal frameworks.

With around 3.5 million truck drivers in the United States, it is imperative to establish and enforce rigorous cross-referencing of all CDL holders’ citizenship and immigration statuses. Allowing unverified individuals to operate large vehicles risks our public safety and erodes trust in governmental protocols. The Continental United States can no longer afford such oversights in the current climate where security is of the utmost importance.

The government must immediately implement policies to verify the citizenship status of all CDL license holders. Furthermore, it’s essential that Border Patrol agents extend these checks to all commercial drivers entering the country. This double-layer verification is critical to preventing further tragedies and ensuring that those behind the wheels of commercial vehicles have been vetted appropriately.

Additionally, prosecuting those who facilitate the illegal acquisition of CDL licenses must become a priority. States, like California, must be held accountable for failures in their systems and deterred from recklessly endangering public safety. Such actions will pave the way for a more secure and just environment where only qualified and law-abiding individuals are entrusted with commercial driving responsibilities.

Please sign this petition to urge our government to take immediate action. We owe it to those whose lives have been lost and to the safety of future generations on our roads. Your signature can bring about necessary change, fostering a secure and lawful trucking industry in the United States.
