Save Adobe Animate: Don't Let This Essential Creative Tool Disappear
The Issue
Adobe Animate has been a vital tool for countless artists, designers, and animators like myself, allowing us to create captivating animations and designs with ease. However, with Adobe's announcement to discontinue this essential software on March 1, 2026, many of us are at risk of losing access to a platform that has become integral to our creative processes.
The Crisis We Face:
Starting March 1, 2026, Adobe will stop distributing Animate entirely. This means:
- Anyone who doesn't have it installed by then will never be able to download it again
- Students learning animation will lose access to industry-standard tools
- Studios that need to reinstall after computer upgrades will be permanently blocked
- New creators won't have any legal way to access the software
By March 1, 2027, technical support ends and access to cloud-stored project files will be lost forever
For many, Adobe Animate is not just a tool, but a gateway to unlock creativity and express ideas uniquely. It's used extensively for creating everything from stunning animations to eye-catching HTML5 banners, where alternatives just don't measure up in terms of usability and functionality. While options like Google Web Designer, Tumult Hype, and hand-coding exist, Adobe itself admits that no software can fully replace Animate's complete professional workflow and capabilities.
Why This Matters:
Technology is meant to enable and empower us, and in the creative field, having stable and accessible tools is paramount. Without Adobe Animate, many creatives could be left without essential resources necessary for their livelihood. The lack of genuine alternatives only exacerbates this issue.
Professional animators have built entire careers around Animate's unique timeline-based workflow, vector graphics capabilities, and HTML5 export features. Educators have developed curricula around it. Small studios and freelancers depend on it daily. Simply letting it disappear harms the creative community Adobe claims to support.
What We're Asking Adobe to Do:
We request Adobe, as a leader in creative software solutions, to preserve Adobe Animate's availability to its dedicated user base. We propose three reasonable solutions—Adobe need only choose ONE:
Option 1: Keep Download Access Available
Maintain the ability to download and install Adobe Animate indefinitely, even after ending technical support. This costs Adobe virtually nothing but preserves access for future creators who need this tool.
Option 2: Release Adobe Animate as Open Source
Allow the passionate community of developers and animators to maintain, update, and improve the software. Companies like Sun Microsystems, Netscape, and others have successfully done this, preserving their legacy while benefiting users worldwide.
Option 3: Offer Perpetual Licenses
Provide a one-time purchase option for the final version of Adobe Animate, allowing users to own the software outright and use it indefinitely without subscription fees or server dependencies.
If none of these options are feasible, at minimum, release the last version for free so it remains accessible to all who need it.
Your Signature Matters:
By signing this petition, you're supporting countless creatives who depend on Adobe Animate to pursue their passions and projects. Let's urge Adobe to take this step and ensure that creativity doesn't come to a standstill due to inaccessible tools.
Please sign this petition to make a difference. Together, we can show Adobe that the creative community deserves better than abandonment.
