The World Health Organisation, WHO,  underwent a survey of over 250,000 youngsters across  44 countries.  They found that the UK seems to have more of an issue with underage vaping than many other countries. With girls in the UK more likely to have used a vape by the age of fifteen, than all of the other countries in the study.

Children aged 11 to 13 in England are the most likely to have ever drunk alcohol, compared to youngsters in all of the other countries surveyed.

The survey covered youngsters living in Europe, Central Asia and Canada and included 4,000 children in England and 4,000 in Scotland and children in Welsh school.

It found that vaping in the UK is higher than average across all of the countries that took part in the survey.

The big concern are around vaping, but also there is some evidence that alcohol use  might be going up again among girls on England.

Dr Hans Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe, said the widespread use of harmful substances among children “is a serious health threat” he added, “Considering that the Brain continues to develop well into a person’s mid-20s, adolescents need to be protected from the effects of toxic and dangerous products.

Professor Sally Kendall from the university of Kent, who worked on the study said that “clearly vaping has replaced smoking as a dangerous recreational activity in our children”
