Research shows that young people are drinking less alcohol, and smoking less cigarettes. Sounds like great news! BUT, I have said for decades that Alcohol is Scotland’s biggest drug of addiction. Smoking used to be our number one drug of addiction, it still kills people in Scotland every 40 minutes.

The reason I believe that less young people drink or smoke tobacco, is that we introduced the minimum price of alcohol and hiked the price of tobacco. These policies are seen as a big success, but as I predicted the consequences would be that young people would be targeted, with other cheaper drugs.

The cheapest single-use vapes cost under £3 enough for a few days of vaping. Like cigarettes they are loaded with the highly addictive nicotine, which will inevitably addict at least one in three of our children. So hiking the price is not the answer to curbing single-use vaping in our children.  Only a complete ban of them will.
