Harbour porpoise's death exploited. On August 12th, a young Harbour porpoise named Jack died way too young. If he had been given a chance to return to the wild, he would have probably lived 20 more years. Instead, he spent his short life surviving in a concrete tank. During the 5 years we observed him at the Aquarium, he certainly seemed lifeless and bored to us, not even interested in performing during shows. However, now the Vancouver Aquarium is spinning the story and conveniently claiming that Jack was engaging and playful. Not so. Here's a photo of Jack "at play"... totally ignoring the ball, as usual. Finally the trainer left without getting any response from Jack whatsoever. Now that Jack is dead, we question the Vancouver Aquarium's claims that Jack was "playful" and "jovial". Really? That's not what we observed the many times we saw him. We saw Jack mostly spend his time ignoring his tank mates, stuck in one spot, and gulping the water coming out of a hose into his tank. We never saw Jack play with the ball, or anything else for that matter. So calling Jack "playful" seems like another of the many Vancouver Aquarium's self-serving claims and nothing more. Please help and leave comments when you see anything about the Vancouver Aquarium's captive cetaceans in media reports. Thank you! http://www.metronews.ca/news/vancouver/2016/08/14/jack-the-porpoise-dies-at-vancouver-aquarium.html
