Another very important petition just started concerning the Broadway Plan and especially how it will impact Kitsilano. I urge you to take a look and sign it, if you support the goals.
The petition asks that the Broadway Plan be reconsidered because it will demolish so many affordable units and evict sitting tenants. The attempt to build a "second downtown" will see density far in excess of the West End. The 30 year plan calls for 30,000 new homes, but just 2 years in, the city reports that 22,000 units are in various stages of development. There are also no plans for parks or amenities, just towers and more towers. The 2 per block limit is being removed and parking minimums are now gone. No parking needs to be provided in towers.
This is all causing a real estate frenzy. We all want to grow Kits and add more housing, but the city and the province are creating a land rush with much speculation and offers of land assemblies. It is driving up housing costs and providing scant affordable housing.
