Revert demoman jumping to what it was before
Revert demoman jumping to what it was before
The Issue
The TF2 Team, and Valve-
Due to the recent changes to the stickybomb launcher, demo jumpers must adapt to the new radius. However, the changes cause demoman jumping to become much more difficult than it already is.
- Grenades and Stickies now have the same base blast radius as rockets. Changed from 159Hu to 146Hu.
- Stickybombs that detonate in the air now have a radius ramp up, starting at 85% at base arm time (0.8s) going back to 100% over 2 seconds. Stickies that touch the world will have full radius.
According to some users, the blast volume for demoman is reduced by 53% while in the air. This causes airpogoing, the highlight of demoman jumping, to become much more difficult. For some users, airpogoing is now essentially impossible.
Many maps have also been affected by the changes— rendering them useless and making them impossible to complete as demoman
Many jumpers are not willing to change to the new blast radius— they have been jumping for several years with the old blast radius— why change it now? The TF2 Jump community wants its old demoman jumping back, one way or another.
What could be done is adding in a self-detonation blast radius for the stickybomb launcher. This would greatly benefit all parties as the demoman would still be 'nerfed' in actual play while keeping demoman jumping the same as before. This has already been accomplished with the Direct Hit for soldiers.
Another alternative is to buff the sticky jumper. The sticky jumper was not affected in this update. An increase for the maximum amount of stickybombs out at a time from 2 to 4 would be widely accepted by the community. Most demoman jump maps only require users to have 2 to 4 stickybombs out at a time. Several demoman maps are undoable with the current sticky jumper. With this buff, the sticky jumper would be a viable (and quite possibly the only) option for demoman jumping.
Please consider the options above, as the TF2 jump community would greatly appreciate it if we did not have to change what we have been doing for years to come.
