Keep CSGO simple - Quality Over Quantity Updates
The Issue
I've been playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive since December 2013. This was the first CS game I ever picked up. I had known about CS for a while, but never really bothered to play it, but got addicted to Global Offensive. It had a good player-base, set ranks to allow for similar-ranked players to play together, and the game ran overall smoothly on my laptop - one that i had used throughout high school and partway through college. To everyone playing now, you probably still think all these things still hold true, but i don't.
Over the years, I have seen this game go through Operation Releases with amazing, well-put-together maps - Operation Phoenix that brought us Cache (to stay this time), Motel, and Agency (from Bravo again), Operation Breakout which brought us Insertion, THE Dragon Lore, and the M4A1S Cyrex, along with extra "droppable" collections, in-game Coins (badges) that showed dedication and hard work to the game, and some other pretty amazing (Yet fairly simple) skin releases - Redline, Asiimov, Fire Serpent, Blood Tiger. We saw Overpass and Cobble be introduced into CSGO, and then re-imagined later to make them better. We saw Workshop come in. the introduction to Stickers played an important role in an update because it allowed you to have your gun be more "yours" and have your own spin on it rather than having a gun that looks just like an enemy's who has the same skin. We saw the introduction of two new pistols the CZ and the R8, both drove the community insane, and were extremely pleased with the turnout of them, sadly with the R8 quickly dying off after a nerfing update. The remake of Inferno.
Of course, with the good comes the bad, I've also seen poor Operation releases, such as Vanguard, a semi-new style of Operation where it improved on Breakout's mission-system, but ultimately failed (along with the ladder Operations as well); further, the only two decent things that came out of Vanguard, cosmetics/nonphysics-wise, was Season, and Wasteland Rebel. For Operation Bloodhound, we reintroduced Season, along with 6 new "droppable" collections, (leaving the Bloodhound case out for later), Rank system brought nothing new except for new players actually having to learn the game before entering Competitive Mode. And the dreaded Wildfire Operation...we got Nuke back, basically it. I had every map in the operation queued for play along with my regular set, and all i remember about any of the maps was the god-forsaken 3 storied ship, and the really big map I believe was Santorini. Of course, with all these updates, we definitely did have some nice patches to fix gameflaws and physics. Recently, players even saw a physic glitch where players were able to "double-jump" or "self-boost" themselves into higher places previously unavailable to a lone player before, and it took devs multiple days for some reason to be able to fix it.
But now for the ugly. This is where I believe CS:GO has gone off the rails - The numerous, unneeded micro-transactions: where to start...
Skins: This will definitely be my hardest argument. I will probably lose alot of readers right here, but lets face it, the skins have died down alot in the recent releases, they aren't as good. Maybe its just me, maybe its not, but if you scroll through the lists/pictures of them, you see how similar some are, you think of what other skin they look like, they may even seem so bland that they seem unoriginal.
Music Kits: now this wasn't necessarily a bad idea new music from a broad variety of artists (Including Beartooth and Hundredth with the new update - not bad) But Stattrak? Come on...
Graffiti: What was this update all about? You gave us 2 sets of purchasable non-permanent sprays, and came out with a whole different Cosmetic update a month later? ...What?
Gloves: Alright, before i make an argument about these, let the record show i understand these were a big part of CS:S, and I might have been able to accept these as a cosmetic, but certainly not right after the Graffiti release.
Knives: Before you bring your pitchforks to me, let me say that knife skins in the game are not bad, but they are at the point where it's no longer impressive to find someone with one, its now "hey i'll trade you two of these and one of those for that one" now We have the 3 Chroma cases, the 2 Gamma cases, the Operation Cases that involve knives, the Shadow Cases. Not only have there been so many knives added to the game, but skins for the knives too: The variations of Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Fade, Marble Fade, Case Hardened, Slaughter, Crimson web - and thats only naming the ones that have multiple versions.
And now with the new update, we also have Weather Conditions on maps. Said to be able to "be playing a hard rain one round and a sand storm the next, and then in heavy fog after". Not trying to bring it up, but i feel like this is slowly starting to feel like this game is turning more towards those games we used to play on consoles, you know the ones with all the skins, and cosmetic upgrade you can buy, etc?
With this petition, I don't want to get rid of anything, but rather have the community have a voice in what they want to see. i understand alot of the CSGO community may not agree with me, but I would rather see more quality updates, patch fixes, new permanent maps, and research for a better anti-cheat or even a "premium pay" subscription for better servers (128-tick), and better anti-cheat software (so that way its not through third-party), rather than all of these cosmetic patches.
