#Uyghurs Genocide: Boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing!
The Issue
DE / EN
Since 2017, according to the UN, at least one million Uyghurs have been arbitrarily detained in western China in the province of Xinjiang against their will and without a court order. In the so-called detention camps, the Uyghurs are educated to become good and socialized citizens in China. In short, they are being politically and culturally indoctrinated because the Chinese government wants to erase their ethnic and cultural identity. Currently, a cultural genocide is taking place!
Those affected are not only Uyghurs, but also people belonging to the Muslim or Christian religion or minorities, such as the Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and Hui-Chinese. Measures such as sanctions have been imposed by the EU and other nations, but they are not enough.
That is why we are calling for the German Olympic Sports Confederation to boycott the Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing! We want to prevent our athletes from being instrumentalized for economic purposes and thus indirectly support human rights violations in East Turkestan (Xinjiang).
Since 2019 eyewitnesses and those affected have reported about their forced sterilization as well as abortions, torture methods and suicides in the labor camps. Children are separated from their parents and placed in boarding schools and foster families. Many Uyghurs abroad have had no contact with their relatives and friends in East Turkestan (Xinjiang) for a long time. Inquiries about the missing person's status and the health situation of family and friends are blocked and rejected by the Chinese authorities. Uyghur forced laborers are also used in the production of large international companies. State-of-the-art surveillance technology is used to identify and track down minorities in the province and then put them in detention centers.
We are Sabrin and Torhan and we have a clear demand! As students of social sciences, we got to know each other in a seminar for political sociology and quickly realized that the situation of the Uyghurs in East Turkestan is very important to us for humanitarian reasons. Because of our history, we as the young generation have the indispensable responsibility to defend human rights!
We cannot allow Berlin in 1936 to become Beijing in 2022. We are responsible!
