West Weber Mega site

West Weber Mega site

The Issue

Weber County Utah continues to move forward with the development of an industrial zone without consideration of Federal grants recieved for wildlife restoration and are not following or addressing areas of concerns that were stated in the 2015 to 2025 Utah State wildlife action Plan.

In addition, the county has bypassed the residents rights to provide feedback and finalize a general plan prior to to announcing a West Weber mega industrial site.

The industrial site will impact migration paths, protected trumpeter Swans, pelicans, the brine shrimp industry and the bald eagle as well as other types of wildlife and protected plants.

The county planner Charles Ewert committed to addressing these as part of the general plan update however, it appears the county has moved forward without such a plan.

This is to petition the State of Utah and Weber County to cease and decist until the impact to protected wildlife and plants can be assessed and an accounting of Federal Grant money received by the county and state is completed to determine if the funds received included this protected wildlife habitat and that all funds recieved are not negated by weber counties announcement for an industrial mega site.

In 2022, the state received a substantial amount of funds to the tune of 28.3 M from federal fish and wildlife conservation grants, What was Weber Counties portion of these funds to provide wildlife protection?

Paul Thompson is rewriting the state of Utah wildlife action plan, it will be interesting to see the difference in the plan from the 2015 to 2025 plan now that Gage Froerer has announced the industrial site.

Someone in the State should look at the arms length transaction of Commissioner Froerer and the development of the lands in Western Weber County. As a prior state representative, one should review his prior financial disclosures for investments in the Western Weber county area and determine if there are any concerns with the current development and the bypassing of the development of the general plan.
