From the beginning of his career in the State Legislature, Sonny Perdue has continuously put education amongst the top of his priorities. In 2004, then-Governor Perdue, signed into law “Bright from the Start” a program that helped ensure all children in Georgia would start kindergarten ready for success and helped families throughout Georgia gain access to early, high-quality childcare and learning opportunities. Governor Sonny Perdue also saw to it that a graduation coach would be placed in all public middle and high schools ensuring all students were on a path to success in earning their diplomas. Also, during his time as Governor, Georgia saw its graduation rate rise from 63% to 72% in just a few short years, all thanks to Sonny.

Sonny Perdue’s lifetime commitment to education, as well as his experience fighting on behalf of the citizens of Georgia as a member of the Georgia General Assembly, Governor, and most recently as the 31st Secretary of Agriculture, is why over 145 college students have come together to form “Students for Sonny”. We believe that Sonny Perdue will effectively manage the University System of Georgia in a way that will increase retention rate in both the short and long term, encourage more high school seniors to choose one of Georgia’s higher education schools rather than going out of state, and most importantly, Sonny will ensure a bright future for all of Georgia’s students, teachers, and higher education faculty.
