On Wednesday October 19 the MOFD Board of Directors is going to discuss the topic of whether there is or is not an issue of Funding Equity between Orinda and Moraga taxpayers. This is the first time in MOFD’s 19 year history that the topic has been discussed. Your petition has had an impact. As our petition stated, the Orinda City Council clearly promised the voters that forming MOFD insured that Orinda tax dollars going to MOFD and targeted for emergency services would be used for services in Orinda. No one, not MOFD nor Orinda, has ever properly accounted for our tax dollars and the cost of the services we are receiving. It is time for MOFD to accept the fact that this promise was made; was a key reason Orinda voters agreed that MOFD be formed to provide us with emergency services; and create the accounting of whether or not our tax dollars are being used to provide us with the services that we are paying for. I encourage everyone reading this message to attend this October 19th meeting; it could mean millions of dollars of services to Orinda which we are currently not receiving. When the time and place of the meeting is set, it will be forwarded. If you cannot attend, or even if you can, I further encourage you to send Orinda’s MOFD representatives messages of support. Just a line or two will suffice (or just forward this message). Take two minutes to let them tell the rest of the board that they are speaking for you.
