Use DNA test to stop Z registration in the offspring of Negative tested Dobermans.

The Issue

The problem is the Z tracking system is not precise or even accurate. It was put in place in the 90's by the use of DNA to prove that the effective Dobermans possessed, carried and passed this mutation to offspring. Significant research has been conducted to support the identification of the specific Albino gene in the Doberman breed. It is through this research, and the acceptance of the DNA results, by both the Doberman Pinscher Club of American and the American Kennel Club that has opened the door for the acceptance of a Negative test result as sufficient evidence to stop the Z registration in the offspring of the Negative dog. We hold DNA results for DCM, VWD and other breed specific disorders as true facts without any dispute or question. Same should hold true for the Albino gene. We also use DNA results to help our litters be healthy and to help match a sire and dam. The "Z" is a blanket band-aid that covers too many healthy Negative dogs. These Negative tested dogs should not be forced to wear this scarlet letter for something they are not guilty, nor should their offspring. What this would mean and do is dogs that are negative, with proof of DNA result, would no longer be recognized as "Z" factored because in honesty they are not. We use DNA in our court systems and the DPCA used it to first identify the gene. The DNA door is open, and the results should supersede and outdated tracking system. the DPCA even added in 2013 on their website advertising their support stating that a commercial DNA test is now available. With this advertisement it enforces that they support DNA testing. You can not only accept the DNA results that best support your opinion, all DNA tests and results should be accepted and the same value. The correction to the "Z" tracking is overdue for this update.
