16 июн. 2017 г. — Friends: This morning CWI filed a complaint with the USDA on behalf of Nosey based on information obtained yesterday out of Indiana. We had an immediate response from their office letting us know they would investigate. We appreciate your continued support and care for Nosey! Our petition has now reached over 190,000 signatures. We ask that you keep sharing and spreading the word about Nosey's plight, and the plight of all animals confined to the circus. If you appreciate our work, we hope you will consider supporting us by making a tax-deductible donation of any amount at cwint.org/donate. Finally, whenever we update the petition we receive numerous comments and questions regarding Nosey. Please review the Q&A below. If you have additional questions feel free to contact us at info@cwint.org. Thank you! =================== 1. No, Nosey cannot be bought. Why? Because an enormous amount of money was offered for her freedom and the Liebels (who own Nosey) decided against it already. 2. No, there are no laws prohibiting the continued ownership of Nosey by the Liebels. The only law governing this situation is the federal Animal Welfare Act, which is overseen by the USDA. Though there have been repeated violations of the AWA by the Liebels, the USDA has chosen to continually renew the Liebels permit to keep Nosey. Action is now being taken against the USDA for their lack of strong enforcement of the AWA. 3. No, we can't just "take" her. Surely everyone here realizes that keeping an elephant requires specialized knowledge and stealing an elephant is not legal or appropriate for Nosey or anyone involved. 4. Yes, a lot of people are doing a LOT to help Nosey, including CWI. To infer otherwise is deeply insulting to people who spend inordinate amounts of time trying to end circus cruelty. We operate within the confines of the law, and the laws are not yet stringent enough to provide Nosey with the help she needs. 5. Yes, there are things you can do: Work on passing local laws in your community banning the use of animals in entertainment. Raise awareness amongst family and friends regarding circus cruelty. Protest any circus that comes within a reasonable distance of you. Support organizations that work on these issues and very much need your support in terms of donations, volunteering, etc. Learn more about other animals suffering as Nosey is, like Anna Louise: https://www.change.org/p/sonny-perdue-demand-sanctuary-for-anna-louise-the-dancing-elephant-now Stopping circus cruelty permanently means that ALL of your voices are needed, and everyone must take action. When you wonder why "someone" isn't doing something...let that "someone" be YOU by taking one of the suggested actions above, or feel free to contact us at info@cwint.org to get involved. Thank you!
