Justice For U.S. Bomb Sniffing Dogs Dying Of Neglect In Jordan
The Issue
The Department of State inspector general evaluation found that U.S. bomb-sniffing dogs sent to Jordan are dying from neglect and improper care.
A year-long investigation has uncovered the appalling mistreatment of U.S. military dogs sent to Jordan. At least ten dogs have died between 2008 and 2016 from medical problems. The surviving dogs are left suffering in substandard conditions. Many of the dogs are ill, covered with ticks, and living in unsanitary conditions lacking primary care. These dogs are used and trained to protect human lives by risking their own lives. They deserve to be treated with respect and honor. Jordan has demonstrated they are not worthy of explosive detection canines and the State Department should be ashamed for allowing this cruelty to continue for years.
Every year the U.S. spends millions of dollars training and dispatching dogs overseas. We are asking that this program be terminated and that remaining dogs are brought back to the U.S. to receive appropriate care.
